Instructions for Groups, Business Trips and Individual Travel to Cuba

The first step in order to plan a trip to Cuba is to familiarize yourself with the new U.S. regulations regarding travel to Cuba, and thereby, you can determine if you qualify under the General License or if you need to obtain a Specific License from the Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC) of the Treasury Department. These restrictions apply to all citizens and residents of the United States, notwithstanding the country from which you travel to Cuba or if you are a citizen of another country.

Please refer to the information outlined in the OFAC Regulations section.

Family Visits

On September 3, 2009, The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Treasury Department established amendments affecting three specific areas regarding the regulations to travel to Cuba to fulfill the objectives of President Obama’s initiative dated April 13, 2009. These areas are: family visits, Monies from relatives in U.S. to aid their family in Cuba and Telecommunications.

OFAC provided a general license that authorizes travel transactions to visit immediate extended family members (including uncles, cousins, and second cousins) that live in Cuba, without any restrictions regarding frequency and duration of visits, and relaxed the restrictions on monetary remittances to same family members. OFAC provided a general license for certain telecommunication services. You can visit the following websites to obtain more information: U.S. Treasury Department, Resource Center. The Treasury modifies its regulations towards the Cuban asset control with the purpose of implementing President Obama’s initiative regarding family visits, monetary remittances and telecommunications.
